Engineering BTEC First Certificate (Level 2)
This one year, level 2 course covers all aspects of general engineering. The course covers a range of practical skills and theory. Candidates will spend 60% of their time in the workshop and 40% in the classroom.
The course covers 3 theory units, Applied Maths & Science, Operations & Maintenance and Manufacturing Technology plus a range of practical units.
Students will study the basics of general engineering, such as those used in local industry. Students will also have the opportunity to develop their basic literacy, numeracy and information technology skills whilst developing their general engineering skills.
Teaching/Assessment
The practical element is assessed by submission of a portfolio of evidence and each theory unit is assessed by submission of assignments.
Entry Requirements
Students should possess 4 GCSEs at Grade D or above (these should include Maths, Science and English) and will be selected according to their results.
They should also have a keen interest in general engineering and will be required to attend an interview with the engineering technology staff..
Progression
Successful completion of this course, together with a high level of commitment will allow progression onto the BTEC National Certificate or Diploma in Engineering Level 3, subject to engineering technology staff approval.
Students completing this course also have the opportunity to enter the workplace and further enhance their skills on a work based modern apprenticeship programme.
Additional Information
Students will be expected to purchase overalls and safety boots for workshop activities and recommended text books for the course.
