IT Practitioners BTEC National Diploma (Level 3)
The BTEC National Diploma is a practical, work-related two year level 3 course.
The course units include: Computer Programming, Multimedia, Expert Systems, Systems Analysis, Database, Web Design, E-commerce and Operating Systems.
The BTEC National Diploma is equivalent to 3 A-Levels
Teaching/Assessment
Students complete projects and assignments based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.
There are no exams. All work is assessed by submission of a portfolio of evidence at the end of each
unit. Students are given the opportunity to improve upon any unit’s individual grade. Two units are externally assessed by the examination board
Entry Requirements
Students will require 4 GCSEs at Grades C or equivalent IT qualification. Good literacy and numeracy skills together with an aptitude to working with computers is expected.
All students must attend an interview with the IT staff.
Progression
Successful completion of this course enables students to gain sufficient UCAS points to progress to further degree level studies within a university or HE college.
Students completing this course could enter the workplace in any sector where office IT skills are required, or obtain an apprenticeship as an IT technician or Application Developer.
Additional Information
There are certain textbooks which students can buy to assist them but they are not essential.
Also the use of a home PC would be helpful but not essential.
